April 2024 – July 2025
This year has been another busy one for the group with approximately 657 badges being awarded across the sections since the last AGM in April 2024.
The group attended quite a few events across the year including the district St Georges Day parade in Great Malvern and the annual bonfire night at the hut.
The Beavers have been very busy and a summary by the leaders is attached at the end of this report.
The Cubs had an equally busy year with the start of it being focused on the World Challenge badge and Pioneer activity badge. The second part of the summer term was focused on outdoor activities and working as a team. Winter term saw the cubs learning how to look after their bicycles and how to cycle safely. This was followed by a fun day cycling in the Wyre Forest, putting all of their new skills and knowledge to the test in a safe traffic free environment. The remainder of the term was focused on the naturalist badge and Fire safety badge along with having a go at Archery and Pioneering. The beginning of the year saw the cubs learning about the Pongal Festival and visiting Malvern Priory as part of their World Challenge Badge. This was followed by three weeks of DIY, including finding out about different tools and how to safely use them.
Back in the summer we had the first joint summer camp with both of our scout troops, Shackleton and Scott, at Rhydd Covert scout campsite in Kidderminster. It was a warm week of camping, cooking on fires, riding on steam trains and visiting the safari park next door and it was great to see scouts, and leaders, from both troops working together and having fun.
Both troops have worked towards many badges over the year along with learning many scouting skills. Shackleton troop attending the Pantomime in Malvern at Christmas, Scott troop took part in Muddy Fox, the district wide game, and both troops went indoor rock climbing at Redpoint in Worcester, along with so much more.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who are involved with 2nd Malvern, without all of the hard work and effort that is put in the group wouldn’t exist and we wouldn’t be able to offer so many young people the opportunity to experience scouting, which would be a great shame.
We have quite a few young people on our group waiting list that would love to get involved with scouting, especially at 2nd Malvern, and in order for us to be able to offer them a place we need more adult volunteers in all sections. If you’re interested in getting more involved with the group or are curious about what’s involved please feel free to have a chat with a leader or member of the trustee board. It’s a lot of fun, especially the camps.
2025 is the 90th anniversary of 2nd Malvern starting and we have a few events and activities organised to celebrate this. The big one is our 90th Anniversary celebration on the 20th September, keep an eye out for more details nearer the time.
Thanks, Ben

Beavers Report
We currently have about 16 beavers attending each week. The programme has been a mix of traditional scouting activities, crafts, games, challenges and life skills.
We’ve had sessions covering safety and thinking of others who are less able bodied.
We’ve also had nights understanding space, cracking codes and learning about other countries and cultures.
On the more creative side we learned some rhythms on percussion instruments and danced the Macarena, and had Easter crafts and cooking with chocolate.
We had a successful night with the cubs working together in teams solving a number of challenges. This is the first time we have done this on a section night and I think we’d happily do that again.
The summer term is generally the scouting side as we can get outdoors easily and it has had us pitching tents, learning knots, cooking on fires and map reading at St Wulstans. We’ve also had our annual night walk in February.
Oh and we’ve had our traditional visit from Santa and the traditional water night is in a few weeks…
Cubs Report (Raleigh)
Raleigh cubs is currently down to 18 cubs with one due up to Scouts in the summer and 3 Beavers due to swim up. The Cubs are ably supported by 5 leaders and 3 young leaders. We are very much saddened that Ryan Heath has not been able to return to help run the section this year and we very much miss him and want to record our thanks and appreciation for his many years of service (and fun) with 2nd Malvern Cubs.
It has been a very busy year in terms of Cubs completing badges, in particular their Cyclist, DIY and International badges. Many have achieved Navigator Level 2, Hikes badges and lots of Nights Away and 5 earnt the top cubs award, their Chief Scout’s Silver, for completing all their Challenge badges.
Raleigh also won the District Quiz and Chips competition and were joint winners of the District Swimming gala. Once again many helped at the Malvern Flower show clean up and took part in a community project creating a bee friendly garden at St Mary’s Church, Pickersleigh adjacent to their Community Fridge entrance.
